
The Newman girls' Sweet Kugel (recipe courtesy of Sherry Hoffman, Audrey Fischer and Rona Raab)
1 lb. fine egg noodles
1 (8 oz.) package Philadelphia cream cheese
1/2 lb. cottage cheese
8 eggs
pinch baking powder
pinch flour
sugar to taste
cinnamon to taste
salt and pepper to taste
1 cooking apple, sliced thin (optional)
raisins (optional)
1/4 lb. butter
sour cream to top (optional)
Preheat oven to 375. Cook noodles as directed on package. Combine cream cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, baking powder, flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt and pepper to taste. Melt butter in 9x12 glass baking dish. Add half to the cream cheese mixture. Add noodles to mixture and mix thoroughly. Add fruit if desired. Turn mixture into the prepared pan. Dust top with sugar and cinnamon. Bake uncovered at 375 for approximately one hour. Kugel is done when top is brown and sides are bubbly. Serve with sour cream on top if desired.
