It is hard for us to imagine the promise of hope that accompanied our ancestors' arrival in America. They came to a new country, learned a new language and different customs, all for the hope of a brighter tomorrow. They came to every corner of this great country. Some came to Atlantic City. Once here they worked, struggled, built businesses and new lives. While they labored zealously to become good Americans, they did not abandon the practice of their faith. They know the contribution Judaism had made to their lives and foresaw the benefit it would bring to this new land.
On December 13th, 1890, the Jews of Atlantic City gathered to found Congregation Beth Israel. From that day to this, their dreams remain ours. We reap the gifts of their work and endeavors of all who came after them.
